Obama, The Populist

Obama, seeing the writing on the wall for November is adding some populist parts to the HCB.

"President Barack Obama will propose giving U.S. officials the power to limit rate hikes by health insurance companies - part of a new health care overhaul plan he will unveil Monday in a last-ditch bid to salvage his signature issue. "

It is a good idea but a bit too coincidental with the recent health care rate hikes out in California. This type of stuff never hurts, as long as it doesn't seem obvious.

Repubs On Committe Not Working On Compromise

It seems that the "Gang of Six" (the gang of 3 dems and 3 repubs trying to find a health care bill compromise) has two GOP members not trying to find a deal. Infact they are flaunting their opposition to their own bill.

Repub Sen Chuck Grassley is trying to get campaign money in opposing the health care bill.

Then you also have Repub Sen Mike Enzi trashing the bill as well.

Both members are supposedly working with Baucus in trying to make a compromise. What a bunch of crap.

It seems more and more likely repubs are exposing their true intentions of destroying Obama's bill. It needs to be passed via reconciliation.

Sightings of Howard Dean

Howard Dean, father of the 50 state strategy and lead architect as to why dems had so many pickups in 06 and 08, has been seen doing the rounds in DC for health care.

"Dr. Dean is reemerging as a major voice inside the Democratic Party -- playing an inside-outside game that’s might make him to health care what former Vice President Al Gore is to the environment."

Dean was a huge part of why dems have done so well and to see him ostracized over the past several months is frustrating. Dean did a great job and has not gotten the recongnition he deserves.

Quote of the Day

From an article written by Ted Kennedy in the Boston Globe:

"OVER THE LAST YEAR, I've seen our healthcare system up close. I've benefitted from the best of medicine, but I've also witnessed the frustration and outrage of patients and doctors alike as they face the challenges of a system that shortchanges millions of Americans.

We have the greatest doctors and medical innovations in the world, but more and more Americans are on the outside looking in to a world of progress and discovery that is denied to them because they cannot afford quality healthcare.

That's wrong - and it's about to change."

And who would know better than a man who just had brain surgery.
