There Is A God

And his name will hopefully be Eric Holder. The Office of Professional Responsibility at the justice department has release a report stating that criminal investigations into torture should be reopened. (They were closed by Bush.)

From the NY Times:

"Mr. Holder, who questioned the thoroughness of previous inquiries by the Justice Department, is expected to announce within days his decision on whether to appoint a prosecutor to conduct a new investigation; in legal circles, it is believed to be highly likely that he will go forward with a fresh criminal inquiry."

He better or America is definitely doomed to repeat its past.

Update: And he did it. Eric Holder has appointed a special prosecutor to investigate torture. The only problem is that he has put limitations on the prosecutor. Allowing him/her to only go after the torturers. Which is unfair. The prosecutor also needs to go after the officials and lawyers who conjured up this whole mess to begin with.

Holder Closer To Investigation

AG Eric Holder is leaning closer to investigating the Bush era torture.

"Attorney General Eric Holder is reportedly getting closer to appointing an independent prosecutor to investigate torture under the Bush administration. That’s making some CIA employees nervous."

The problem. He's only looking into if the CIA crossed the lines during the torture and investigating if the torture was legal in the first place.

I guess any investigation is better than no investigation.

Dick Told CIA To Conceal Program. Could Lead To Special Prosecutor

The movement to investigate the Bush/Cheney administration just got a shot in the arm over the weekend with a couple of stories.

First, as reported here, Director of the CIA Leon Panetta told congress that they had misled/lied to congress about programs.

Second, it was revealed in that same briefing by Leon that Cheney told the CIA not to inform congress about special programs. Which is illegal.

Last, with the new information about all this illegal stuff, Eric Holder is seriously considering a special prosecutor to investigate.

I feel the drip drips of the Bush/Cheny Whitehouse have now turned into a slow pour. As I have said before, this is too huge and drips will suck all news/headlines. There needs to be an investigation to save Obama's agenda.

Ted Stevens Dodges a Huge Bullit

Former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens dodged a bullet yesterday when attorney general Eric Holder filed to discontinue the prosecution of Ted, even after he was convicted. Ted was awaiting sentencing but the new AG is now trying to void his conviction.

There were three reasons for this. Ted is 85, he lost his senate seat, and there were major errors on the part of the prosecution. Very bad errors from what I saw. The prosecutors on a couple of occasions withheld evidence during disclosure. There were a couple of big items the prosecutors "forgot" to disclose.

At the end of the day, the old man is no longer in power, he lost in disgrace and because of the misconduct of the prosecutors, I like this decision to let him off.
