Was "You lie!" Racist
Maureen Dowd wrote in her column this week about the accumulating evidence that some people from the south just can't handle a black president.
From Ms. Dowd:
"But Wilson’s shocking disrespect for the office of the president — no Democrat ever shouted “liar” at W. when he was hawking a fake case for war in Iraq — convinced me: Some people just can’t believe a black man is president and will never accept it.:"
Look at some of the crap that has been leveled against the president.
1. He's not American but Kenyan
2. His wife was compared to a gorilla at a zoo
3. He was told to use humility in his speech to congress.
4. He was called a liar at a joint congressional speech.
While all of these don't screem racism. There is an undertone that is not found with white presidents. Yes, democratic presidents tend to get an angrier and more violent opposition (you never saw people show up to Bush's speeches carrying an assault rifle. They showed up with T-shirts with the Bush name crossed out and got arrested.) There might be more to what Maureen is saying. That people from the south cannot stand having a black man tell them what to do.

The SC Heckler Vulnerable For Reelection
The South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson (R), who shouted "You Lie!" at Obama's speech, appears to be vulnerable for reelection.
"Rob Miller (D) edges Wilson, 44% to 43%, in a survey conducted Thursday night and Friday morning."
The thing is, I don't trust these things a year out. It is way too early to raise an eyebrow. It will take a couple more controversies before this can even be considered a toss up.

GOP State Rep Really Lets It All Out
Conservative GOP state rep Michael Duval from orange county California, not knowing of his hot mic, disclosed, in disgusting detail, his extramarital affairs 2 women yesterday.
"She wears little eye-patch underwear. So, the other day she came here with her underwear, Thursday. And
so, we had made love Wednesday--a lot! And so she'll, she's all, 'I am going
up and down the stairs, and you're dripping out of me!' So messy!"
And then there's this:
"So, I am getting into spanking her. Yeah, I like it. I like spanking her. She goes, 'I know you like spanking me.' I said, 'Yeah! Because you're such a bad girl!'"
It would be funny but this is so disgusting. A fat old man talking like that. It is quite vile. Is this the next generation of GOP congressman.
God, I hope not.

Right In A Tither Over Obama's Address of School Kids
Jesus christ the right can get worked up over nothing. To the point of insulting the intelligences of normal Americans. The right has been going ape nuts over president Obama's speech to incoming grade school students.
They say Obama's is trying to indoctrinate our kids into his left wing socialist agenda. What crap.
From Robert Gibbs:
"I think it's a sad, sad day that the political back and forth has intruded on anyone speaking to schoolchildren and teachers and parents about the responsibilities that they have as we enter a new school year."
Its true. A very sad day when our elected president has this crap distracts from his attempts to keep kids in school.

Low Wage Workers Are Getting Screwed
It turns out low wage workers are more likely to get taken advantage of by their employers. A recent study (payed for by the Ford, Joyce, Haynes and Russell Sage Foundations) finds that employees in low wage jobs are more likely to be asked to work off the clock and not get paid. If they get hurt at the job, they are talked out of claiming workman's compensation.
From The Times:
“'The conventional wisdom has been that to the extent there were violations, it was confined to a few rogue employers or to especially disadvantaged workers, like undocumented immigrants,' said Nik Theodore, an author of the study and a professor of urban planning and policy at the University of Illinois, Chicago. 'What our study shows is that this is a widespread phenomenon across the low-wage labor market in the United States.'"
They also discuss how people were penalized for trying to create a union or complaining about salary.
It is amazing how employers take advantage of those most vulnerable in our society. What a sad state of affairs for this country.
Reading Supreme Court Justice Stevens' Tea Leaves
Well, it seems that Stevens hasn't hired his alotted 4 clerks for the 2010 session. A lot of people read into this as his eventual retirement. From The Times:
Stevens "has so far hired just one law clerk for the Supreme Court term starting in October 2010, a court spokeswoman confirmed on Wednesday. That may be an indication that Justice Stevens, 89, is considering retiring next year."
That would set up another nomination and another round of the right going crazy. Something we really don't need right now.
